Summer Academies - June 2019

All of our courses can be registered for online at the ISY Summer Academy Registration Page or alternatively you can download the Summer Academy Registration Form and bring it to the ISY business office in B Building along with your payment.  Online Payments can also be made at our Online Payments Portal.  Please indicate which course you are paying for in the free text field.  Please note that each course has a minimum number of required students and will not run if that number is not met. Full refunds will be given for any courses that do not run.

Week 1 - June 3rd - 7th

EAL, Arts, and Creativity -  Grade KG - 5, 8am to Noon ( Cost: $300 )

This unique program is for elementary students who are looking to improve their English language skills in an artistic and creative environment. Ms. Diana and Ms. Wah Wah will teach you wheel throwing, drawing, and painting techniques, all while practicing your English. You will develop your written, reading, and spoken English in a fun and relaxing way.

Basketball Academy - Grade 4-8, 8am to Noon  (Cost: $300 )

This program will offer skill development and real game experience. Coach Carpenter will help you improve on your shooting, dribbling and passing, all while learning the value of teamwork and sportsmanship. You will learn new strategies on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. And best of all, it will be fun!

Swim Academy - Grade KG - 10, 8am to Noon  ( Cost: $300 )

Coach Anthony Stadel of ASW will offer a swim program this summer, catering to students with various levels of swimming ability.  Whether you’re just starting out, or want to stay sharp for next swim season, our swim academy will get you where you need to be. Stroke refinement and endurance exercises will be tailored to meet the needs of each swimmer.

Soccer Academy - Grade 5 -8, 8am to Noon  ( Cost: $300 )

Power Soccer is a private football academy based in Yangon. They have worked with our ISY students throughout the school year, and are now offering a summer program. Their international, certified coaches will help take your football skills to the next level. Spend your summer mornings working on dribbling, passing and shooting through various drills and while playing in competitive matches.  Increase your knowledge and strategies on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Be ready for the soccer season in the new school year with a real advantage!

Technology Is Everywhere -  Grades 5 - 7, 8am to Noon   (Cost: $300 )

Explore ways to use technology in different aspects of your life.  Learn how to use technology that enhances your understanding of various subjects and topics.  We will use tools for being active, for mindfulness, for studies, and for healthy entertainment.  Try a new tool each day. All of ISY’s best technology will be available for this academy to ensure students get the most out of their experience.

Kung Fu Camp - Grade  3-5, 8am to Noon ( Cost: $300 )

Kung Fu, also known as Wushu,  is commonly understood to be a Chinese martial art.  While true, Kung Fu also refers to any learning, skill, or practice that requires concentration, vigor, discipline, and resilience to achieve. It's ultimate goal: understanding of the self so that one may continually improve upon it.  In this workshop, students will fortify self-esteem, mental acuity, reflexes, coordination, situational awareness, resilience, as well as physical fitness and health. And of course the aim is to have while fun doing so. The workshop itself will consist of instruction in basic self-defense, while games such as table tennis, dodgeball,  obstacle courses, aerobics, and yoga will hone gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, balance, agility, and concentration. Concurrently, practices and activities for the mind, such as meditation, self-affirmation, puzzles, and games of checkers and chess.

Musical Theater Dance: Annie, The Musical  - Grade 1-6, 8am to Noon  ( Cost: $300 )

Get ready to put on a musical in a week! Students will learn choreography from the Broadway show Annie including dance numbers "It’s a Hard Knock Life" and "Tomorrow." Together we will memorize a short act, learn the choreography, and then have a sharing for parents on the last day. This is a chance for students to learn more about musical theatre as well as have fun dancing and singing-along!

Counselor In Training Program- Grade 10-12, Time TBA (Free of charge)

If you wish to volunteer your time and help assist our academies with younger children, please attend our Counselor in Training program on Friday, May 31st.  The training session will be held in room D-202.
